Russell Scheaffer at Tribeca Film Festival


Earlier last year Russell Scheaffer had a serious accident that put him out of commission for some time. The recovery process was slow and seemed to last longer than it needed to. As a response, Scheaffer took out his aggression by scratching, painting, and thrashing a section of 35 mm film. The result was Acetate Diary, a selection to this year’s internationally acclaimed Tribeca Film Festival. NY Arts was intrigued by Schaeffer’s violent and colorful approach to film, which is in small part reminiscent of the work of Stan Brakhage or Len Lye.
